Meet SSKB’s New Addition to the Team – Ross Hardcastle

At the beginning of the year Ross Hardcastle joined the SSKB team as ‘Head of Strategy and Innovation’. We sat down with Ross to learn more about him and his role at SSKB.

What was your role before starting with SSKB?

My background for the last 15 years has been in finance, mainly in the mortgage broking.

Prior to this, I was in real estate. I worked primarily in residential real estate working for a small family business.

What is an interesting fact about yourself?

Something interesting about myself is that I do youth mentoring with an organisation called raise foundation.

Raise foundation is set up to prevent youth suicide in Australia. Suicide is the biggest killer of children in Australia.

We attend high schools that have identified children who are at risk in the community. We do a mentoring program one on one for a period of 20 weeks.

I have really enjoyed doing something to help individuals who don’t necessarily have the same start in life that we may have enjoyed ourselves.

What excites you about your new role at SSKB?

What excites me about my role at SSKB as head of strategy and innovation is that my role ties in exactly with the philosophy of the company which is that we are trying to make a positive difference in the lives of owners in Strata communities.

These days we are aware that it is not good enough to just do business as usual. My role is to look at how we can improve, what we can do different and how we can add value to communities as well as suppliers the we work with.

It is important that what we do adds value to our lot owners, our suppliers and our business continues to evolve to enable us to stay ahead of the competition.

What does your day to day look like?

My day to day often depends on where we are. Our head office is on the Gold Coast, but we also have offices in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and Melbourne.

Depending on where I am working from on the day has a big impact on what I will be working on.

Recently I have been meeting with suppliers and working out where the major spends are within our communities. We are working hard to get our communities better products and services at a lower cost.

I have been meeting with suppliers to identify how we can add value in the transaction. We will then look at how we can package this up and offer those savings and higher quality services to our clients.

We are also looking at how we can digitalise SSKB. We are looking at the customer experience and how we can improve that experience using digital technology. We want to benefit the people in our communities.

What outcomes do you hope to achieve in the new few months?

Specific outcomes we are looking to achieve in the next 6 months are quite varied, it depends on the area of the business we are working on. It may be through our procurement piece, our digitisation or other areas.

Initially in the short term we want to identify the quick wins. We want to identify what we can do that can be achieved quickly that adds value to our customers at a very low cost.

The long term strategic objectives for the next 6 to 12 months is to make sure we know exactly where we are going. We want our customers to know where we are going, the people who are living in our communities, our suppliers and our team here at SSKB. We aim to do this in the next 6 to 12 months to ensure we stay ahead of the competition and lead the industry.

What attracted you to SSKB?

I was attracted to SSKB because of what sets them apart from the competition. We are experts in our field. Whether it is the people in marketing or the Community Managers, we are experts in what we do. I love working in that environment and it gives me a great deal of confidence and I know that it always delivers our customers a great result.
