We sat down with Kate O’Rourke from our Brisbane office to talk about her journey with SSKB.
How long have you been in the Strata Industry?
I have been in the Strata industry for 14 years. This month I am celebrating my 9-year work anniversary with SSKB in the Brisbane office.
Can you tell me about your journey with SSKB and how you got to where you are today?
I have had many rewarding moments in the 9 years I have been working with SSKB. I started working with SSKB as a Community Manager and 6 years ago I became a Community Manager Team Leader. Working as a Team Leader allows me to have a close working relationship with all SSKB employees.
At SSKB we believe in the motto, “work hard play hard”. Each year all staff members attend a gala event, a company wide Christmas party, team bonding events throughout the year as well as being able to participate in our Digital marketing content. This includes featuring in videos and working with the marketing team to create educational content for our clients.
Can you tell me about your assistant and how long you have been working together?
My assistant Zoe Brown and I have been working together for 1.5 years. It is easy to communicate with Zoe and we know what we expect of one another.
What has been your highlight since starting with SSKB?
One of the most rewarding parts of being a Community Manager are the relationships I get to build with clients. I have maintained buildings for many years which has allowed me to get to know my clients on a personal level.
The extra responsibilities I have gained since becoming a team leader have allowed me to form relationships with clients from outside of my portfolio and become involved in more areas of the business.
Have you faced any particular challenges in the role and how did you overcome them?
Each of our clients face problems from time to time and they turn to us for assistance. Being in the industry for such a long period of time has given me the knowledge to assist my clients which is a rewarding aspect of the job.
As Strata is such a complex area, I do see a lot of challenges that are not so easy to overcome. Sometimes this means seeking the guidance of other SSKB employees, obtaining legal advice and engaging the services of industry professionals. When these complex matters are overcome it is very fulfilling to be able to deliver a solution to the Committee.
What are you looking forward to in 2020?
Since starting with SSKB I have had two children, both boys. One of the things I am most excited for this year is my son starting prep.
We also have a lot of new business coming on board this year, so I have a lot to look forward to at home and at work. I am excited to see my existing clients and to start building relationships with our new clients.
